Automated Larval Feeding and Enrichment Systems

Hatchery larval feeding automation dispenses precisely timed and dosed live feed, rotifers, Artemia nauplii, microalgae, into larval rearing tanks on a programmed schedule matched to the specific larval stage's feeding requirement, addressing the operational reality that larval feeding in a commercial hatchery with many simultaneous rearing tanks is too frequent and too precision-dependent to reliably perform through purely manual dosing without either excessive staffing or inconsistent feeding intervals that degrade larval growth and survival uniformity. Automated enrichment systems similarly control the timing and duration of the nutritional enrichment process, loading rotifers or Artemia with essential fatty acids and other nutrients before they are fed to larvae, ensuring enrichment duration stays within the narrow window needed for effective nutrient loading without allowing enriched live feed to sit so long that its own nutritional quality begins degrading before use. Precise timing matters disproportionately at the larval stage compared to later juvenile or grow-out feeding because larvae have very limited digestive capacity and energy reserve buffer, meaning a missed or mistimed feeding during early larval development can have a proportionally much larger negative impact on survival than an equivalent scheduling lapse would have on a more robust juvenile or adult animal. Integration between live feed culture systems, rotifer and Artemia production, and the automated dosing schedule feeding larval tanks requires careful production planning to ensure adequately enriched live feed is actually available in the right quantity at each scheduled automated feeding time, since automation of the dosing step alone provides no benefit if the live feed supply chain feeding it is not equally well synchronized.
